UIIC AO Exam Pattern 2026

The selection process for the UIIC AO has been revised this year and now consists of three stages:

Preliminary Examination → Main Examination + Descriptive Test → Interview

Stage 1: Online Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination is common to all eligible UIIC AO disciplines. Candidates who qualify in the Prelims will be shortlisted for the Main Examination.

Stage 2: Online Main Examination (Objective + Descriptive)

The Main Examination pattern differs for Generalists and Hindi Officers.

  • Generalists: The Main Examination consists of an objective test followed by an English descriptive test.
  • Hindi Officers: The Main Examination consists of an objective test followed by a Hindi/English descriptive test.

Candidates must qualify in the prescribed sections of the Main Examination to proceed to the next stage.

Stage 3: Interview

Candidates who qualify in the Main Examination will be shortlisted for the Interview in accordance with the prescribed recruitment rules. The final selection will be based on the applicable selection criteria.

The UIIC AO Generalist Prelims Exam 2026 is divided into following three Sections –

(i) English Language

(ii) Reasoning

(iii) Quantitative Aptitude

The UIIC AO Generalist Mains Exam 2026 is divided into following five Sections –

(i) English Language

(ii) Reasoning

(iii) Quantitative Aptitude

(iv)General Awareness (with a special emphasis on the Financial Sector)

(v) Computer Knowledge

UIIC AO Prelims (Tier-I) Examination Pattern

· Mode of Examination – Online

· Types of Question – Objective type (MCQ)

· Total number of question - 100

· Total Marks – 200

· Exam Duration for Paper – 1 Hours (60 Minutes)

· Language of Question Paper– Bilingual (in English and Hindi) except test on“English Language”

· Marks for unattempt question - Zero

· Negative Marking - 0.25 or ¼ for incorrect answer

The Tier I Preliminary Examination is applicable to both Generalist and Hindi Officer candidates. The online objective examination carries 100 marks and has a total duration of 60 minutes. Each section is separately timed.

UIIC AO Generalist Main Exam Pattern

The UIIC AO Generalist Tier II Main Examination includes an Objective Test carrying 250 marks and a Descriptive Test carrying 30 marks. The objective examination consists of 200 questions and has a total duration of 150 minutes.

The Generalist Descriptive Test carries 30 marks and has a duration of 30 minutes. It is conducted online in English immediately after the Objective Main Examination.

UIIC AO Interview 2026

An important point is that the Descriptive Test is qualifying in nature for the selection process, but its marksare not counted in the final merit list for Generalists. For Generalists, the final merit is prepared usingTier-II Objective marks and Interview marks in the ratio of 75:25. Preliminary marks and Descriptive Test marks are not included in final merit.
