JNVST Class VI Admission Procedure 2025

The CBSE selects talented students from each district through an All India Level Entrance Exam each year, and these students are then admitted to the JNVs in their respective districts for the sixth standard or class.

The Central Board of Secondary Education administered the JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA Selection Test (JNVST) prior to 1998.

The JNVST test is mostly nonverbal, objective in character, and created to ensure that students from rural regions are not placed at a disadvantage.

Now admissions are also taken in Class IX and XI. During the academic year 2008-09 admissions are allowed in Class VIII. These admissions are conducted through an objective and descriptive test containing questions on English, Mathematics, Science, & Social Sciences. This "Lateral Entry" system is devised to fill the vacancies that arise due to the withdrawal of admissions of the children who are admitted in class VI.

FOR RURAL CANDIDATES: Candidates chosen from the district's rural areas will fill at least 75% of the seats; the remaining seats will be filled from the district's urban areas.

FOR URBAN CANDIDATES: Candidates shall be classified as urban candidates if they attended a school in an urban location for even one day of class in Grades III, IV, or V. Urban areas are those that are so designated in the 2011 census or by a subsequent government notification. The remainder will be regarded as rural.
