MH SET Exam Details Overview 2026
MH SET 2026 (Maharashtra State Eligibility Test) is a state-level eligibility examination conducted by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune, on behalf of the Governments of Maharashtra and Goa, to determine the eligibility of candidates for the post of Assistant Professor in universities and colleges across Maharashtra and Goa. Candidates with a Master's degree in the relevant subject can apply, subject to the prescribed eligibility criteria. The examination consists of two objective-type papers conducted in a single session: Paper I assesses Teaching and Research Aptitude, while Paper II evaluates subject-specific knowledge. The examination is conducted in offline (OMR-based) mode, and qualified candidates receive an MSET Eligibility Certificate for Assistant Professor recruitment.
Eligible candidates can submit their online applications for the MH SET 2026 from 2 June 2026 (11:00 AM). The last date to apply online without a late fee is 3 July 2026 (6:00 PM).

MH SET Eligibility Criteria 2026
To apply for the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (MH SET) 2026, candidates must satisfy the following eligibility conditions:
- Educational Qualification
- Candidates must possess a Master's degree (or equivalent) from a UGC-recognized university in the relevant SET subject.
- General/EWS/Unreserved candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (without grace marks or rounding off).
- SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/SEBC/DT(VJ)/NT/Transgender/PwD/Orphans candidates require at least 50% marks in the qualifying Master's examination.
- Final-Year/Postgraduate Students
- Candidates who are appearing in the final year/final semester of their Master's degree or whose results are awaited may apply provisionally.
- They must complete their Master's degree with the required percentage within two years from the date of the MH SET result; otherwise, their eligibility will stand cancelled.
- Age Limit
- There is no upper age limit for appearing in the MH SET examination.
- Subject Eligibility
- Candidates should appear only in the subject of their post-graduation.
- If the postgraduate subject is not listed among the SET subjects, candidates may appear in a related/equivalent subject as per the official guidelines.
- Reservation
- Reservation benefits are available only to candidates who possess valid category certificates as prescribed by the Governments of Maharashtra or Goa.
- Reserved-category candidates from other states must apply under the General category.
- Candidates Not Eligible
The following candidates are not eligible:
- Students in the first year of a two-year Master's programme, the first two semesters of a four-semester Master's programme, or the fourth year of a five-year integrated Master's programme.
- Candidates who have already qualified MSET in the same subject cannot appear again in that subject.
- Candidates who have passed M.Sc. (by Research/PPPR) are not eligible as per UGC rules.
How to Apply for MH SET Exam 2026
- Visit the official MSET website: MH SET Online Application Portal.
- Click on "Apply Now" or "MSET 2026 Application Form" and complete the New User Registration using a valid email ID and mobile number. Your registered email ID will serve as your username.
- Log in using your registered credentials and fill in the online application form with your personal details, educational qualifications, category, SET subject, and preferred examination centre.
- Upload the required scanned documents in the prescribed format, including:
- Recent passport-size photograph
- Signature
- Master's degree/provisional certificate and mark sheets (as applicable)
