JEE Main Exam Details Overview 2026
JEE Main 2026 Exam is conducted by National Testing Agency or NTA in a computer-based mode (online examination) to be held in January/April 2026.
JEE-Main Exam consists of two papers-
- Paper 1 is held for Admission to UG- Engineering Program (B.E/B.Tech)
- Paper 2 is held for Admission in B.Arch & B.Planning courses.
NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), institutions/universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments, as well as an eligibility examination for JEE (Advanced), which is held for admission to IITs, would be permitted to take the exam. UPSEE (2026) candidates can also take JEE (Main) 2026. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow will use the score sheet of JEE (Main) –2026 Examination for admission to fill 1.40 lakh seats in 750 colleges affiliated with it across the State.
From 2018, the Department of Higher Education, the Ministry of Education, and the Government of India have given the NTA (National Testing Agency) the authority to conduct the JEE-Main Examination.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2026
Candidates willing to appear in the JEE Main 2026 Exam are advised to go through the eligibility criteria before filling Application form for JEE MAIN 2026.
- Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens. Foreign national candidates, as well as NRIs, PIOs, and OCIs, can also apply.
- Age Criteria: There is no age limit for appearing in JEE Main 2026.
- Educational Qualification -The results of the 10+2 final examination from a reputable central or state board will be accepted.
- Any recognised board or universities intermediate or two-year pre-university examination will be accepted.
- Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the ‘National Institute of Open Schooling’ will be accepted by the NTA.
- Any exam taken at a public or private school, board, or university in India or any other country is equivalent to the 12th board examination.
- Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
- A diploma with a minimum 3-year duration that has been approved by the AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education
- Advanced (A) level General Certificate of Education (GCE) exams (London, Cambridge, Sri Lanka).
- High School Certificate of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma Certificate.
- Number of Attempts: Candidates can appear in the JEE Main exam for three consecutive years.
- Subjects: Candidates should have qualified in 5 subjects.
- State of Eligibility: State code of eligibility means the code of the State from where the candidate has passed Class 12 (or equivalent) qualifying examination by virtue of which the candidate becomes eligible to appear in the JEE (Main) for admission to B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch./B.Planning courses being offered by institutions in the state/UT.
How to Apply JEE Main 2026
In order to qualify for JEE MAIN 2026, the candidates have to apply online only. To fill JEE MAIN 2026 Application Form online, candidates have to follow the steps mentioned below:-
Step 1: Visit the official website of JEE MAIN https://jeemain.nta.nic.in/
Step 2: Register yourself by using your email id and then verify it.
Step 3: Fill the application form of JEE Main 2026 online by entering all the qualification details required for the application form.
Step 4: Candidates will be required to pay JEE Main application fees in on-line mode via Net banking, Credit/Debit card and UPI/ Wallet.
Step 5: Candidates applying for JEE Main 2026 examination have to upload the required documents while filling the application form. These documents are to be uploaded in the said format on the official website.
Step 6: Candidates need to pay the application fee online through credit card, debit card, net banking, or UPI.
Step 7:After the completion of the payment, a confirmation page of the online application will be generated, and candidates need to take the print of the JEE Main online confirmation page.
