UPSC CSE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA 2024

 

Nationality -The nationality requirement for the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024 is that candidates must be:

 

  • A citizen of India
  • A subject of Nepal
  • A subject of Bhutan
  • A Tibetan Refugee who arrived in India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement in India
  • A Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, or East African countries of Zaire, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia, or Malawi, with the intention of permanent settlement in India.

 

As long as the candidate falls under category (ii), (iii), (iv), or (v) above, they must be someone in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been given by the Government of India.

 

UPSC CSE Age Limits -

 

  •  General Category: A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st of August, 2024.

 

Relaxations:

 

  • OBC: Three years relaxation (maximum age 35 years).
  • SC/ST: Five years relaxation (maximum age 37 years).
  • Physically Handicapped: Ten years relaxation (maximum age 42 years).
  • Defense Services Personnel: Three years relaxation (maximum age 35 years).
  • Ex-Servicemen: Five years relaxation (maximum age 40 years)

 

UPSC CSE Educational Qualification –

 

1. Candidates must hold a degree from a government-approved university or have an equivalent certification.

2. Candidates who are awaiting results or are in their final year are also eligible to take the UPSC preliminary examination.

3. Technical and professional qualifications are recognised by the government as equivalent to professional and technical degrees.

4. Medical students who have completed their final year of MBBS are also eligible for the UPSC examination.

 

UPSC CSE Number of Attempts 2024

 

The number of attempts permitted for UPSC CSE 2024 varies by category:

  • Other Backward Class (OBC) candidates: 9 attempts
