Alphabetical Order of Words

Arranging words in alphabetical order implies, arranging them in the order as they appear in a dictionary, i.e., as per the order in which the beginning letters of these words appear in the English alphabet.

The standard order of the modern ISO basic Latin alphabet is: A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H-I-J-K-L-M-N-O-P-Q-R-S-T-U-V-W-X-Y-Z.

Example : 

In each of the following questions, arrange the given words in the sequence in which they occur in the dictionary and then choose the correct sequence.

1. Eagle  2. Earth   3. Eager   4. Early   5. Each

Solution : 5,3,1,4,2

Example : 

If the following five words are arranged in alphabetical order, which word will come in the middle?

  1. Draw
  2. Read
  3. Play
  4. Back
  5. Want

Solution : Play

Arranging the words in alphabetical order, we have: Back, Draw, Play, Read, Want. Clearly, the word ‘Play’ comes in the middle

  2. Follow
  3. Faithfully
  4. Fool
  5. Fallible
