Problems on Paper Folding
The problems based on paper folding involve the process of selecting a figure which would most closely resemble the pattern that would be formed when a transparent sheet carrying designs on either side of a dotted line, is folded along this line. The figure has to be selected from a set of four alternatives.
If the sheet is folded along the dotted line, the symmetrical counterpart of the design in the folded half would emerge on the other half. Therefore the simple strategy for solving paper-folding problems would be:
- Draw the reflection of the design in that half which is to be folded, on the other half, assuming a mirror to be kept along the dotted line.
- The reflection of the design of the other half and the original design would overlap on the new folded half. This new design, resulting from the overlapping, would be the answer figure.
